Lesson Planning

This week has been a bit different for me as we had one day of in-person classes at the university, but since then, all our classes have been online. Despite the change, it has been an exciting week focusing on the significance of Lesson Planning. I've come to understand that effective lesson planning is the key to successful teaching. When crafting a lesson plan, there are several crucial points to consider, such as the class duration, selecting engaging activities, and utilizing helpful teaching aids. Taking these factors into account can prevent the class from becoming monotonous, keep students from getting distracted, and ensure that we achieve our objectives in each lesson. There's nothing worse than a dull class that fails to capture students' attention, right? 😴 One crucial aspect I've learned is the importance of assessing students' prior knowledge about a topic before starting a new lesson. By understanding what they already know, we can tailor our lessons to build upon their existing knowledge, making the learning experience more effective and meaningful for them. I've also discovered the power of using various teaching methods to keep the class engaging and interactive. Incorporating materials like cards, pictures, and other resources can cater to different learning styles, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to excel. To keep the class lively and maintain a good pace, I've started incorporating Concept Checking Questions (CCQ) and Instruction Checking Questions (ICQ). CCQs encourage students to provide more elaborate answers, ensuring they comprehend the topic at hand. On the other hand, ICQs allow me to verify that students have understood the instructions and are paying attention. Moreover, I've learned not to assume that all students have the same level of understanding. People learn differently, and by using CCQs and ICQs, I can tailor my approach to each student's needs, creating a more inclusive and effective learning environment. I am thrilled with the progress I'm making in learning about lesson planning, and I'm eagerly preparing myself to deliver engaging and impactful classes in the future. With thoughtful planning, diverse teaching methods, and effective questioning techniques, I am confident that I can make a positive difference in my students' learning journey. 🙌
